Manufacture (plan feature): define Bill Of Material at `/definitions/bom`, run Manufacture Orders at `/definitions/manufacture-order` with Start Manufacturing, and review Material Consumption and Production Cost reports. Finished products can show average manufacture cost on the Item Product Cost tab.
Material Consumption & Production Cost
After Start Manufacturing, use Material Consumption (Planned vs Actual vs Variance) and Production Cost (Material, Labor, Overhead, Cost Per Unit). Finished items with a manufacture plan also show Product Cost on the Item.
Material Consumption
- Planned — quantities expected from the BOM × manufacture qty
- Actual — quantities confirmed when you Start Manufacturing
- Variance — difference between planned and actual for each material
- Use variance to tighten BOM recipes or warehouse discipline

Production Cost
- Material — cost of confirmed raw materials
- Labor — labor entered on Start Manufacturing
- Overhead — overhead entered on Start Manufacturing
- Cost Per Unit — total production cost divided by finish quantity

How to use the numbers
Planned
Baseline from BOM — should match theory for the order qty.
Actual
What was confirmed on Start — drives true material cost.
Variance
Investigate scrap, theft, or wrong BOM qty when gaps grow.
Cost / unit
Compare runs and update pricing using Product Cost on Item.
Open the finished product under Item → Product Cost after several manufacture runs to see Average cost. Full link between manufacture plan and Item is covered in Finished Product & Product Cost.
Frequently asked
Why is variance always zero?+
You confirmed materials exactly as planned. That is fine — variance appears when actual confirmation differs from BOM-scaled quantities.
Where else do I see production cost?+
On Finished Product items with a manufacture plan — Product Cost tab shows Average cost. See Item.
